Segregation by self-imposed stereotypes, bigotry, and racism

Hello Dear Reader, I have a simple yet complex question for you…..Don’t think, just answer….

If you were to meet someone today, online, who knew nothing about you, couldn’t see you etc, and they asked you to describe yourself as a person, what would you say? What would be the first word that came to your mind? White? Black? Gay? Straight? Republican? Democrat? What?
We CONSTANTLY hear about the labels that we put on each other and ourselves, Labels that serve no other purpose other than to create divides in our community and our world as a whole.
Recently laws have been changed that allowed homosexuals to be legally married. Wonderful. But, that being said, it should have been totally unnecessary. Why do gay people have to be ‘Gay’?  I assume it is the same reason some people have to be ‘African-American’, Which is just a damn silly term anyway. Unless you are a legal citizen of Africa, you aren’t African-anything. No more than someone who had a German ancestor in their family tree 200 years ago could be classified as a ‘German-American’. If you were born in the United States and/or are a citizen of the United States you are ‘American’. Period. Yet we feel the need to label each other, and that is the true root of our racism, bigotry and civil rights issues. Women, Blacks, etc should never have had to fight for the right to vote, equality or anything else. Our founding fathers were smarter than we are. One of our most important documents in history begins with the phrase ‘We the People…’ It does NOT say ‘We the white hetero-sexual Christian republican males…..’

For a minute, lets get back to the whole ‘Gay Marriage’ issue.

The gender of the person that happens to touch your genitals on occasion is meaningless. It should not define who you are or where you can live or what rights you can have.  If you are asked to describe yourself and the first word out of your mouth is ‘lesbian’, guess what? You have issues. You just said that who you have sex with defines who you are as a person. You need to get out more. You have labeled yourself by telling someone who you happen to love or sleep with, when in most cases, nobody cares. I would rather know something that actually matters , like ‘Artist’ or ‘musician’ I don’t CARE who you like to see naked.
I feel equally strong about those who think their race is a defining characteristic of who they are. I laugh at things such as ‘Gay Pride’, ’Black Pride’, and ‘White Pride’. Be proud of something you had a decision in, You had no choice what race to be born any more than you had a choice as to what country to be born in. It just happened. YOU didn’t do anything so there is nothing to be proud of.

Labeling yourself or others in this manner is counterproductive to what people say they are trying to achieve. If you want ‘equal rights’ it time for people to stop being ‘gay’ ‘black’ ‘christian’ ‘muslim’ etc, those are are labels that for the most part nobody cares about anyway. Be a damn ‘People’ and see others as people. Until we forget how things have been done in the past and start looking at things in a SANE, rational manner, we will always have the issues that are currently causing so many problems in our world now.
